Winter Chinook Salmon in full swing!

The winter Chinook fishery in Howe Sound, Gulf Islands and Vancouver Harbour is probably the best in the last decade. We really haven't stopped fishing since October 2016. Local guide Dave K. bagged a winter Chinook salmon to 29 lbs last week.! Many in the low teens to low twenties have been reported and numerous in the just under legal limit size and just over legal limit have been caught and released by us local guides. As a bonus, Spot Prawns are abundant as well as legal size Dungeness crabs. I have been using predominantly glow type flashers and glow type spoons fished right near the bottom in depths up to 240 feet where all the fish are as large schools of bait are schooled up on the bottom. Stomach contents have revealed 5-6 inch anchovies and herring. There are days we have had 10 fish to the boat but all just undersize and there are days when guests have taken home a couple of 8+ lb fish. A winter dinner of fresh salmon, prawns and crab is truly a Westcoast treat. Dress in layers to stay warm and wear quality rain gear and footwear, even on clear days. Winter rate special runs until March 31st. Give me a call to arrange an amazing fishing experience.
